100 Years of Solitude in Estonia

A photographic insight into the dark nature of Estonians: their special bond with nature, constant yearning for light, and forced surrender to a plethora of conquerors. Officially the least religious nation in the world, our rituals, traditions and spiritualism have worked to form Estonians' human nature.

I find that Marquez's magical realism resonates with me, but this project might be described as an anti- or inside-out version of Marquez's reality.  I have been working with this project for eight years (2011-2018) and probably could go on forever, but I feel that now is the time to stop.

The exhibition consists of 20 photos divided into staged portraits and still-lifes inspired by the aesthetics of painting. All environments and props are as I found them.
