Estonian photographer Kaupo Kikkas received formal training in photography at Finland’s Visual Arts Institute, but he attributes his award-winning portraits of musicians to his education in that field (clarinet, sax, and voice).
Kaupo has worked ten years in Northern Europe shooting for a host of magazines, advertising agencies, and he occasionally exhibits his portraits in regional galleries.
On the international front, his image of a model covered in whipped cream was recently selected for the cover of Nikon Pro magazine (winter 2010). In 2009, his portraits of pilots, a symphony, and a choir performed a category sweep (first, second, and third prizes, respectively) in the group portrait category of the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International competition.
His studio is located in Tallinn, though when not at work he can often be found camping (and photographing) on the Lapland tundra. He occasionally still picks up a saxophone and has been known to sing after a few drinks.
